Biological Sewage Treatment Plant and MBR System for Wastewater Treatment
In a biological sewage treatment plant, raw sewage passes through an aeration chamber where the air is supplied by a diffuser. This stimulates the activity of aerobic bacteria which breaks down the sewage in the water, carbon dioxide, and inorganic waste. The sewage then goes into a settling or clarification chamber. The solids which settle are returned with the help of airlift and are taken to the aeration chamber which makes sure that they are completely broken down. It applies to all the surface scum. The air diffuser gets air through a small air compressor for airlifting or air diffusing.
The liquid is then disinfected by passing through a chlorination chamber which has float switches controlling the discharge pump along with an elevated level alarm. The sewage treatment plant is automatic but it requires regular maintenance without which it won’t work properly and would lead to the buildup of Methane and Hydrogen Sulphide that are hazardous. Cleaning is required for the removal of accumulative matter. A proper survey should be done of the aeration diffuser to make sure that air is bubbling out of them and they are clear. One more thing which should be checked is the return from airlift, to ensure that they are functioning properly. They possess a pipe for seeing the sludge. An inspection should be done of the internal tank coating for blistering or cracking.
MBR system for wastewater treatment
MBR stands for a membrane bioreactor. The MBR system wastewater treatment syndicates a step of biological treatment mostly activated sludge through a membrane step which is ultrafiltration of low pressure or ultrafiltration. This system is formulated for meeting the demands of municipal and industrial sewage treatment. The main aim of this wastewater treatment is to remove pollutants from water.
The increased concentration of sludge inactivated form mends the organic material`s removal along with the removal of nitrogen and ammonia. It also effectively removes pathogens and microbes. As the suspended turbidity and solids are near to zero there are chances of direct use. Due to the low rate of sludge production, it reduces the price of sludge processing. It leads to 50 percent saving as it is an efficient process. It requires less energy, is low cost and extremely simple to clean.
PVDF membrane filter
PVDF stands for Polyvinylidene difluoride. The PVDF filters have chemical resistance and are strong with thermal stability. There are two types of PVDF membrane filters which are
- Hydrophilic
- Hydrophobic
